Reception teacher sick

DS reception teacher been off sick since early October, returning for 2 weeks only to go off sick again. I do completely understand and sympathise with the situation from the teachers perspective however none of the parents have had any communication whatsoever from the school as to who the supply is, although there does appear to be a long term supply.

The lack of communication from the school narks me, is not normal practice for a letter to be sent explaining the situation? It’s an academy run school if that makes any difference.

I would have thought more usual in primary but it depends. We have someone whose sicknote is just constantly extended rather than say 3 months so its difficult to plan.

Depends on the school really. Have you not had the opportunity to see who teaches your DS on the school run at all, or any school events? I assume there would have been some xmas production or another, if not any parents evenings. Perhaps the school thinks you would already be aware through these avenues, and what DC say. Although it would be good practice to notify by letter they may not have anticipated the length of the supply.

We had this and I write a carefully crafted email, explaining it was unsettling for kids not to know who was teaching them etc and to ask head for more regular info.

They were GREAT and stepped up the emails to us immediately.

Maybe let hem know you could do with more frequent updates?

Thanks. There are two classes in reception (30 in each) - the other teacher has been covering parents evenings etc (and doing a great job)

I guess I just would have expected some information from the head and the opportunity to meet the long term supply.
