World book day ideas

Hi everyone, my apologies if this has already cropped up on here! But I’m looking for inspiration. My ds is insisting on wearing one of his beloved Star Wars costumes for WBD, but to me it’s not really ‘booky’ enough. I’m trying to convince him into wearing something more inventive, but nothing is grabbing him. Has anyone any ideas to tempt a stubborn 6 year old??

D'S went as a Hobbit last year after I talked him out of a Star Wars costume. He loved it, especially because he got to take his sword

I like this, thankyou! I will take a look and show him some pics. I think if he can physically look at a costume, it may raise some excitement

Well, the point really is what books does he like?

I would just tell him it HAS to be a book character and then discuss the books you have read together and pick somebody.

Any of the How To Train Your Dragon characters?

Ds6 is gonna be willy wonka.

One of mine is princess Aurora this year - she really wants to wear the dress and we have a book so easy win.

When DS was 6 & 7 he went a Hiccup from how to train you dragon - different book so different costume each time

Roald Dahl day he went as Roald Dahl as his favourite book was going solo which made a change from the millions of Charlie's and UL's in the playground

Last year he went as Harry Potter

No idea what he's going as this year as his favourite book of the year so far was Wonder which isn't really dressing up friendly, trying to steer him towards some of the football books he likes or WW2 evacuees stories

Really easy. School prospectus. School uniform. No one can say that isn't a book.

Good idea Paddington68 - my son went as the boy in a dress a couple of years ago. OH was horrified that I let him and that DS found it quite funny seeing how the different dresses twirled (he has an older sister). Mind you, he went more or less in school uniform last year as Just William which is pretty much the polar opposite!

My son went as doctor who when he was about 6/7... there was no talking him out of it. tbh he didnt have a fave book at the time other than his dr who annuals so i let him roll with it.

now at 9 he is a total book worm and hes been umming and aaaahing over which character to go as and has decided on alex rider. (hes a spy and ds has been telling me which gadgets are needed lol)

My ds loves fact books about wildlife so is going in a lion onesie.

Dd has a million books about puppies, and a dog onsie, so wbd is very easy this year. She wore a different dog onsie last year, and the year before she had a kitten hoodie. It's nice and easy having a child who is obsessed with animals as both books and clothes are animal based.

My son used to wear his own clothes and go as horrid Henry! Simple
