World book day is coming....

School has announced this year for world book day they are doing a dress up day for world book day.... so come on....what ideas do you have for your dc?

ds wants to be harry potter.... It would mean buying a new uniform as dc's school uniform is nothing like the hogwarts one, and he would be one in a sea of HPs in school that day.

So any other ideas for a 9 yr old boy?

At least I should be happy they gave us a months notice to sort out costumes x

Thank you. Our school is good for the one day notice for things like This... Will stsrt thinking now. And not the night before like last year! ( I was presented with the snail and the whale. She was packed off as a school child) Hmm

Girl here so it may not help

One of the Three Musketeers
The girl from Awful Auntie
A character from her favourite horse book
The mother from Igraine the Brave, a magician. Just an excuse to wear a medical dress

We always had tons of Harry Potter or Herminones. I think boys are more difficult as the older they get the more “normal”the characters are. If he like anything Marvel you could use that as they are books first and movies second.

reluctantbrit · 25/01/2018 20:29

Medival dress, not medical

Elisheva · 25/01/2018 20:32

Mine have been: Harry Potter (!), Prince Caspian, Horrid Henry, Oliver Wood, Tom from Beast Quest. This year they are going to be Percy Jackson and one of the boys from Captain Underpants.

AllButterShortbread · 25/01/2018 20:34

He could go as a muggle. That’s my plan for ds Grin

MovinOn · 25/01/2018 20:50

thanks for the ideas.... I think its at the beginning of march.

A muggle is a fab idea!!!!

Hes started reading alex rider books, so I suggested him, asked what he wears and was told "just normal 14yr old boy clothes"... I love the detail I get in the answers from him Hmm

Also have a 5yr old girl who is going as the witch from room on the broom. We have a witch costume left over from halloween so thats a plus. just need to raid her teddy box for all the animals to stick on her broom.

Any low effort ideas for the teachers would be lovely too.
stupid, fricking twatty world book day. Grumble, grumble, grumble

Eyesshut · 25/01/2018 21:00

I think Harry Potter is a very popular character and most supermarkets will sell cheap HP costumes around world book day time..

Eyesshut · 25/01/2018 21:02

I'm thinking of suggesting to the rest of the class that we all swap costumes from last year, save some ££

Fruitloopcowabunga · 26/01/2018 12:52

Love that they're giving you notice! DS has generally been Danny from Roald Dahl's Danny Champion of the World (dark trousers and jumper, toy pheasant - dog toy!, and packet of raisins) or Tintin - blue V neck jumper and Snowy toy. When they're little, Harry + the bucket of dinosaurs is an easy one.

KingLooieCatz · 26/01/2018 12:55

One of the Famous 5 was good bet, DS was ambivalent about dressing up that year, so jeans, walking boots, checked shirt and rucksack.

BlueChampagne · 26/01/2018 12:55

Klaus from A Series of Unfortunate Events (just needs glasses)
Lots of Roald Dahl characters require minimal dressing up.
A sheet ... for any ghost!
Dressing gown - Arthur Dent from Hitchhiker's Guide
David Walliams - the boy in a dress

KingLooieCatz · 26/01/2018 12:56

Book Day bat signal went out from DS school this very day. They're good for that.

Hoping to recycle the outfit we're doing for the Sci Fi Convention, possibly without the replica gun.

Annabelle4 · 26/01/2018 12:57

My dd is going to be the Gruffalo Grin

I think I got the costume on Amazon a few years ago

Rylanmakesmyheartsmile · 26/01/2018 13:07

One of the easiest costumes we've done is the girl from Roald Dahl's The Magic Finger - jeans, jumper, wellies and a finger light on one finger.

Witchend · 26/01/2018 13:33

I am planning on sending ds in in school uniform and with the school prospectus. he hates dressing up. Grin

Although he did prefer my invisible man suggestion a couple of years ago where he stayed off and I sent in a tape recorder with his voice on.

Witchend · 26/01/2018 13:35

When we had a pirate day they sent a message out saying "please no replica weapons" Ds' response: "Does that mean we can take real ones?" No thought through there. Grin

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 26/01/2018 13:44

Ds will be Harry Potter, was HP for Easter so is easy costume

love your DS!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 26/01/2018 13:46

Was HP for Halloween not Easter lol. Easter bonnets on the brain

Sixgeese · 26/01/2018 13:56

DS went as Percy Jackson characters on two WBDs.

For Percy he wore an orange t shirt that I had written Camp Half Blood on, a necklace with beads made from air dry clay and jeans, he had a pen too. (Percys sword turns into a pen)

For Nico he wore black skinny jeans, black t shirt, faux leather jacket, a chain for a belt, eyeliner, and black temporary hair dye, we found a really cheap plastic sword with skulls on.

Both really easy as most was already his wardrobe, I wish his sister's were as easy.

BrendansDanceShoes · 26/01/2018 18:08

Search online for Tom Gates mask. (Sorry, too inept to post the link😮) Print and cut out, then DS wears normal clothes and takes mask, which can be held in front of face. Serves to fit with the illustrated nature of the books. Easy peasy, and suits all DS's who hate dressing up.

WellTidy · 26/01/2018 18:13

No idea what 10 year old DS will be this year.

Any ideas please?

In previous years he has been Oliver Twist (grubby school trousers and school shirt, messed up hair, dirt on his face, holding a bowl, and I made him a badge that said 'please sir, can I have some more?') and the demon dentist (cheap lab coat off Amazon, tools from the dentist playdph set in his pocket including drill), and willy winks (cheap Sainsbury's costume).

MummytoCSJH · 26/01/2018 18:17

My 3yo (born in may) and my 3yo brother (born in august) will be going as henry and peter.. my boys a right mischief and my brother is a perfect angel so it's spot on!
