Spelling help?

Hi folks,
DS9 is growing increasingly frustrated with spelling (he was appalled at how you spell 'tongue' Sigh) and I can see his point. I know the key here is more reading and I am working on this, but is there anything else I can do to help him learn his weekly spelling words? Anyone have any 'fun' tips?
Thanks

I used to make the words fun by pronouncing them as they look.

So when going over Yacht for example, I'd say yACHT in a weird, loud Scottish accent. Pronouncing the CHT like a hard sound..

They'd laugh of course and they'd never forget how to spell it!

Tongue would become TON GOO! or TON GUH-EH

It worked for mine anyway. And we had a laugh!

My ds always segment the word and say as he writes.
And he does as Cheap suggests too.
Like Wednesday, he would say, wed/nes/day.

My class quite like using spellingframe.co.uk
Has about 30 lists each for y3/4 and y5/6 plus a few for the statutory word lists. They build the word from given segments, find the correct version from a selection then type the word.
Free too so worth a look.
