Scottish Curriculum for Excellence

Question for any Mumsnetters who are Scottish primary school teachers. Where can I find out what the standards are for kids at primary schools - ie what would your average well taught P7/P1 etc etc be expected to know. I have tried to find out online and can just find tomes of ( Cfo E) how children are to become confident individuals (good) etc etc but nothing about what sort of maths and standard of english they should have. Is there such a benchmark document available for parents and if so, whae is it called? Many thanks.

Milly, if you want my advice... Give up. I have tried to make sense of it, but I never managed. You get submerged by a sea of blurb - or is it quick sand... - and after a while your mind goes numb. Now everytime I hear the word "outcome" or "experience" I want to puke! (And I am not even sure I know what an "outcome" is in practical terms).
My advice is: if you feel that what they do at school is insufficient, do it at home.

What Arkadia says. Trying to understand the CfE is like trying to juggle air, basically. Get some decent textbooks and workbooks and do work at home with your child if you want to be sure they are doing what they are supposed to (sad but true).

Arkdadia - thank you (and you too Kokeshi123). What you both say is what I have suspected, and find profoundly depressing. And for things in the future that are not my forte...(maths/physics) I just hope that there will be enough teachers. Unfortunately in our area there are two secondaries with problems finding maths teachers .....but yes - just need to get on with it!!!!! Thank you though! Am in agreement - and I teach it (Secondary). Everything is just descriptions which are useless without actual exemplification and we don't have any of that.

The latest is a bottom up approach where we agree standards from local school groups, take them to Councils who then take them to a central meeting. All hogwash.

Level 4 (bright S3) is way beyond National 4 and a good Level 4 in English would cope well at Higher.

Impossible. The new tests are still in their infancy and there is nothing to compare pupils to, as yet. 5ey test Writing by multiple choice (I kid you not).
