Catchment areas

My first child has just started preschool nursery this week. Im applying for a reception place at the same school and out of interest looked at last years intake area and we are right on the borderline. The school has 2 sites an infants and a juniors. From what I can find on line it all seems based on the main site - the juniors. Is that right or is there a separate catchment area for each site? Even though they are just a couple of streets apart looks like it might make a difference.

Do you mean catchment area (which will be a clearly defined area of particular streets/houses) .. or the distance of the last admitted child? If the latter, the admissions criteria will clearly state where the distance is measured from, and to, and the method used to measure.

The admissions criteria should state explicitly how admissions are determined - schools differ, so we aren't going to be able to tell you without looking at the specific school. Also, as Red says, a defined "catchment" is different to the distance of the last admitted child -the latter will change every year. If you want to tell us (or PM me) the name of the school I can check the details for you if you like.

If the two sites are treated as a single school (ie children attending the infants would not have to reapply to attend the junior school) then I would expect a single point to be used for working out distances.
