Reassurance please..... DS starting reception

I have posted before about my DS, he seemed to be getting on Okay, few little tears and quiet in class, but otherwise we'll.

This morning he was complaining of being tired and wanting to go home when we were queuing up to go in the classroom. Then he had a full on meltdown I had to physically pick him up screaming and crying, and leave him with a TA still screaming that he wanted to come home with me. He clung on to me and was distraught.

It has really stressed me out, as I now am dreading dropping him off. I am hoping it was a tired one off, but feel like an awful mother!

This week seems to be an odd one at our school lots of kids are tired and parents on edge. He'll be fine and you are not a bad mother

Thank you, finding it really hard to be honest, no mum friends to compare notes with, and hopes after the first few blips we were doing well! I am going to put it down to being over tired and try and be positive tomorrow!

How old is he? We've had quite a few younger children tired/upset this week in school (I'm a TA).
I think it's the novelty of first week or two back wearing off, and realisation that it's going to be a while til half-term.
Staff will be completely used to it. The meltdowns rarely last for more than a few minutes.

Please don't feel bad.

I think they are realising that this is it now and the initial novelty is wearing off. I remember the look of horror on ds face when he realised that he was going to school EVERY DAY. He thought it was a one off event abit like Christmas.

"I'm not going to school today, I 'goed' there yesterday"

DTs were fine going in for a week, then the next week one of them was hysterical -clinging to me, screeching don't leave me mummy, the headteacher had to pull her off me and take her away and I could her her screaming all the way into school and down the hall (no parents in grounds at our school never mind the classroom).

It was hideous and I am very much in the they have to get on with it brigade.

Next day was absolutely fine and was ever since. I think the tiredness and the enormity of it all just got to her that day.

I noticed a lot of the small ones crying today at drop off.

Try not to feel bad, I know its hard!

Thank you all for your reassurance.

I am unfortunately a worrier and get very anxious about things, and ovethink everything!

I am hoping it's a one off, but I just need to think that he's okay once I leave.

Being a parent seems to keep getting tougher, think I need to be more resilient!

It's normal. The excitement has worn off. The tiredness has kicked in.

Do not expect to do much outside school until at least Christmas. They get into the routine, but it takes a while.

(We are all suffering here from the shock of going back to school, the tiredness has set in. My youngest is yr2, but I think I am struggling just as much!)
