Book bag and book

My dd lost her book bag on second day of school. I didn't realise she wouldn't need it straightaway. School said they looked for it last week but can't find it anywhere. DP is reluctant to buy another straight after. So would it be ok to put her book in a little rucksack with her name on? Also she brought a book home on Friday. We've done some reading over weekend so do we need to send her back with it tomorrow. She does breakfast and after school club so it's not always easy relaying messages.

A lot of schools like you to bring your home reading book in every day.

I'm sure it will be fine to put it in something else while you wait to see if the book bag turns up. My dd's is in a freezer bag.

Book back most likely gone to other children's home. If it was named, I assume it will come back. You need to speak to school about alternative to book bags, my ds's school doesn't allow anything other than book bags in ks1.
Books need to be sent back if she has finished reading it to be changed to the new one.

She hasn't finished reading it. She's only reception so practising a page at a time. Does she keep reading it at home then? We've got a book to write progress notes in so we've done that.

I think you really need to check with school.
My ds's school didn't need to bring in reading books everyday, but like Savoy says, your school may do.

At our school, reading book goes in every day & comes home every day. It has to as there is no regular pattern to when DS will read to someone at school. We're encouraged to listen to them read (or, when there are no words, to discuss the book) for 10 mins a night. We do it five nights a week with Fri & Sat our nights off.
With the book bag, how blatantly was it labelled, did it have any identifying features like key rings? How easy is it going to be to distinguish it from all of the others? I realise you work but I think you may have to go in immediately before pick up or at a lunch time one day & just look through every single book bag until you find your DS'. I bet it is there somewhere & people won't immediately spot it however well meaning they are.

Is there any extra book bag left in your Dd's class? If there was, and has name on it, it's most likely that child has taken it by mistake and keep using it.
We had a incident in yr1, that my ds's brand new school coat went missing. There was one left on the hook for while. It was torn, and very old, but had owner's name on it. I don't know how it went, but the teacher managed to get it back for ds, and I have written his name with huge letters on inside the back of his coat after that.

I don't know if there's an extra one. How would I go about it? When you collect her they don't really let you in the classroom as they have loads of kids coming out and I don't want to make a fuss.

If you don't need to leave quickly, you can wait until most of the children are gone, and ask to look for your dd's school bag?

Since the object doesn't disappear into the thin air, it needs to be somewhere. It could have fallen behind the cupboard, or book shelf, etc.

Will they think we are being a pain? My dp is collecting her on Wednesday from class and I know he won't want to go on about it.

At my ds's school, it's quite common that parents went in to search for something after school. Lots of children forget to bring jumpers or drink bottles in reception. I think it's better than asking teacher to look for it.
But our school has open door policy, so parents are encouraged to come in for quick chat if they want.

I'm always going in to search for stuff and dd is in y1. Get your dp to do that and if it doesn't turn up, buy a new one.

I name everything in huge letters so both teachers and parents know whose it is. We have only ever lost a couple of bits. It will probably turn up one day... in the meantime, don't stress. Email teacher. If it doesn't turn up, buy a new one and put it down to experience. We can use any bags at our school which makes it easier. I gave up with school book bags as they weren't great anyway.

Yes, for future reference, name in big letters in the front and attach a keyring (or similar) to make it distinctive.

I'd ask again at school - get teacher to check classroom and ask other parents if necessary.
Re an alternative bag - many schools store book bags in drawers/piles so a rucksack would be a PITA - carrier or other flat bag would be better.

Agree you should have reading book in school every day.

The school may have some old bags in lost property or some second hand ones you could buy if that made things easier.

A rucksack wouldn't work at our school as the book bags are stored in trays.

On a peg in the adjoining classroom. Her teacher found it after I emailed school and she replied. It as good actually because she sent me a lovely email saying how well dd is settling in etc.
