Hi there. Our son will be Year 3 in September 2018 and we have to choose a primary school, as he's now in a infant school. Haberdashers and Merchant Taylor are in our mind so I'd love to hear from parents with kids in these preparatory schools. I found lots of good information about these schools here, but only about senior school, so I would love to know more about their preparatory schools. Any help will be really appreciated. Thank you!

You better get your skates if you want to enter him for the 7+. It must be near the cur off time.

Can only talk about Habs. For the right boy it is a lovely stretching and surprisingly nurturing school.

I know, we're in a really rush. Thanks for your answer, just let me know, what do you mean by the right boy?

Have you been to see the school yet ?
It's worth getting a private tour alongside going to open days etc
I have friends with kids in both - feel free to PM me

Right boy = bright, articulate, confident, passionate about whatever interests him.

I don't think it is right for shrinking violets. Or boys who need to be tutored to keep up.

Thanks Ma518. I'll pm you.

Thanks Bigbiscuits. You mean that the school isn't happy having pupils who needs more attention to keep up? Or do you mean that if the child is shy and need more attention he won't feel comfortable himself among all the others?

@Ma518 just came across this thread and I wonder if you still can share the experience from both your friends son in MT and Habs? Thank you

@cheesecastle those that I know are near the end of school life but both have done well and thrived at their respective schools
