In Year place start date

My DD has been offered an In Year place at a school local to us. She is currently at a private school and is autistic. Ideally I'd like to accept and start her after Christmas but the council can't tell me whether or not this is possible. Has anyone done this?

How old is she? You can defer up to a term after your child's 5th birthday. As far as I know you can't hold a place for a child over 5.

In year places, once offered usually have ot be taken up with a certain time, which I think is 3 weeks.

Occasionally, if eg moving house and you are in communication with the school, they may extend that.

Unless the school has places free, in which case they may be open to you extending it longer. But as soon as another chidl comes along and applies for the place, if you haven't taken it up, you may be in trouble.

On the other hand, if she has a echp, it may be possible to plan a move according to that, but you would need professionals on board.
