dd has brought home a cd of songs to practice and they are awful. firstly there are tuneless dirges - you know the kind of song that sounds contrived, there for the sake of it, rather than being a good piece of music. secondly every bloody song has a "worthy" message. ok so most of the messages are in fact worthy ("running gives you a healthy heart*"; "recycle recycle your rubbish"; "greens are what you need"; and "brush your teeth to keep them bright") but what's wrong with Doh a Deer; Food Glorious Food; and teaching the world to Sing? what's wrong with tuneful songs with no message at all, except that singing happens to be fun?

  • replace with "fart" when singing in the playground

Ok, I think I will stop minding that DS1's school sings so many religious schools (who knew! how dare they trap me into this sort of rubbish! Just because it's got 'saint' in the name and is attached to a Cathedral! The cheek!). Those songs sound dire.

So many religious songs

Misread this as "satanist"...

Ours is quite good, last concert included a song about a rollercoaster, one about oliver cromwell, a sound of music song and a couple of other good ones.

If the choirmaster has a series of five year plans run, run for your life!

I thought you meant do they learn to sing the Red Flag for school assemblies. I was a Young Communist at one point of my (misspent) youth and we had some very good songs actually (though no all suitable for children).
No, our school choir get to sing a good mix of stuff from Italian lullabies to Jennifer's Rabbit.
Also Hello Mr Sun (where is vomit emoticon when you need it.)
