Half Days at Primary School Every Friday

All of the Edinburgh schools have a half day every Friday. This has been going on for years now and is a total nightmare for me as I'm really needed at work on a Friday afternoon.

The school day is short enough but the additional half day every Friday really takes the biscuit! Edinburgh Council don't care as they all get a half day on Friday too (yes, the entire council closes at 12:30pm on a Friday) but for the rest of us this means switching shifts or organising childcare.

I would be interested to know if any other schools have a half day and if you do if this bothers you at all or if it's just me having trouble with it?

I can see both sides- however, as someone said, it's been going for years. It's not new.

I'd like it as a teacher but not as a parent!

Stargirl, Kinross High, but I have no idea about primary schools in PKC because mine went to primary over the border in another county.

I wish we had this in Glasgow. I suppose it all depends on your work but as the schools close slightly later Mon-thurs (3:30?) instead of 3pm as it is here, I could work longer on those days (currently work until 2:30 to get to school on time for 3) and earn more without after school care.

Forgot to mention I don't work Fridays so would be great for me!

PKC = Perth and Kinross Council ?

I went to a French school in the UK. We didn't have lessons on Wednesday afternoons. Even when I moved to a London comp, we finished at 2pm on Wednesdays (1980s). No idea why. It wasn't a madly sporty school.

Damn. Secondary is not for me 🤣🤣🤣
