Can anyone advise me on Hackney Schools?

Dear All,

I will be moving soon to Kenninghall road e5. My son is 4 years old and due to start school this september (17).
I really need advice on the schools. There are quite a few nearby and I have checked many websites regarding their achievement rates and other data. Although this is generally a reflection of the school, I couldn't find many parent reviews, which I do value too.

I was wondering whether anyone would share their views on Primary schools like or near to Nightingale, Baden Powell, Benthal, southwold, millfields... I can travel further to Mornigside

I would begin by finding out from the local authority which schools have places. I havent lived in the area for a while but have family that do and they had difficulty in finding places even during the normal admissions rounds.

I agree with isaulte. Speak to the Local Authority. You may find that you don't have any choice at this stage of the year.

Isalute and Littlefish - thank you for your responses.
I did speak to them last week and they informed me that at the current day, morningside, nightingale, millfields and benthal were not oversubscribed. That there were still places that could be offered. Others like jubeliee, northwold and William paten were oversubscribed. I know there is a chance the places may be taken by the time we apply but I just need some insight from parents that know more than me in the local area.
Looking forward to any advice

Psychologika · 18/08/2017 10:14

I'd join a local Facebook page and ask on there!

BRZA · 18/08/2017 10:34

I didn't know a Facebook page existed of local parents Psychologika.
Thank you, I will check

I'm in Crystal Palace and we have a very active one, as do lots of London areas! Really useful for finding out local stuff 😊

Do get on waiting lists for Jubilee and Northwold - you are too far from William Patten (judging from website www.schoolcatchment.co.uk). There's a lot of movement in London schools and places open up all the time.

There's a recent positive post on Millfields on the Mumsnet local talk board for Hackney. Also you could try the Facebook group East End Mums.

Have you considered Halley House?

BRZA · 23/08/2017 10:24

Thank you all for the great advice. I didn't know Halley House school existed! What is it like?
