Potential new school does different phonics - problem for year 1?

We are moving house locally and have been looking at moving dd to the school that will be down the street versus staying at her current school which would mean buses there and back. I thought I'd finally decided but we've just found out that the new school does a different phonics to the current school.

Does anyone know how much this could affect dd's reading and writing development? She's been doing so well and really enjoys practising her writing at home. I'm worried learning a new way of doing it could set her back and keep her behind for a lot of primary school.

Can anyone advise or have any experience of this? Thanks :)

It shouldn't make any real difference. The only issue could be a difference in pace and order of teaching (how far through the programmes each school is) so you may find she is ahead or has some catching up to do.

I would definitely move her to closer school! You have extra time on hand due to not needing bus rides, you can easily catch up at this stage in case she was behind.( But I doubt it, the ability range is still huge at the beginning of yr1. )

It shouldn't make that much difference, if she's been picking it up well anyway.
When we moved, my daughter went from learning Jolly Phonics to a school following Letters and Sounds. It didn't make any difference, to be honest. She is a good speller and writer ( she's 20 and at uni now!)
