Ks2 SATS - do schools have to provide breakdown?

We've just got ds1's SATS results and they are unexpectedly high and I was hoping to get a breakdown of results but school are insisting it's just the 3 main scores they give nothing else. I appreciate they don't really matter in the grand scheme of things but they do stream at his secondary using SATS scores so interested to see how he did in each area (plus as I say, quite a bit higher than expected and after failing the 11+ it would be good for his morale to see these scores.

Why would a breakdown be better for his morale?

What do you mean by 'breakdown'?

There should be an overall scaled score for:
Maths
SPaG
Reading
and a teacher assessment for writing.

They can't be 'broken down' any more?

If you mean he got e.g. 'Working at expected level' as a statement, but not the scaled score, then the school is wrong, and they should be providing the scaled scores too. However what isn't available is e.g. marks in each paper for Maths, or Spelling vs Grammar & Punctuation.

We were given a break down, I know what marks my daughter got in the individual papers.

So, you could ask as presumably that info is made available but I'm not sure you can make the school give you the info.

We've got the English, SPAG & maths scores but I thought there was a more detailed breakdown for each paper available. When I say good for his morale I meant, he was so so chuffed (rightly so) with his scores that I just thought it might be nice for him & us to see where he's exceeding in each area as he's been very down about his academic ability after his 11+ results and his best mates all going to grammar. He's now delighted at the prospect of being in top/higher sets and we'd all like to know how he's done in each area. Not a biggie but wondered if schools were obligated to give these more details results if asked (we initially only got 'working above etc' and only got the scores after asking)

Interesting. I'm sure i have only ever seen overall scores reported, but looking at the statutory documents, it just says 'results of the KS2 tests must be reported' (as standardised scores) - which could be interpreted as per subject or per paper....

Laura0806 · 21/07/2017 11:49

we got individual paper scores too-so a score for arithmetic, reasoning 1 and 2, then a reading score and a grammar and a spelling score separately (plus the total). Well done to your DS!!

The conversion table of scaled score to raw score and vice versa is here www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/624645/2017_KS2_scaled_score_conversion_tables.pdf
