Sibling rule?

This is more of a question than anything. My daughter is on the waiting list for our local school (non catchment). She is just completing reception so already been at another school for a year.

I'm not sure where we are on list.

I have heard of another child in her school who's younger sibling has got into the school we want.
I don't know if they live closer than us or further away (we're only 250 yds from school and only a handful of streets out of catchment closer)

Perhaps they have even moved into catchment - I don't know lol.

My question is, assuming they live out of catchment and further than us, would the elder child leapfrog mine on waiting list?

I kind of understand the sibling rule for younger siblings (although I do think it's essentially unfair when people move far away yet get younger child in on sibling rule) however this is a different situation as the family have chosen to have 2 kids at 2 different schools.
I'm not even 100% sure if we would move my child if a place came up although we are keeping our options open.

The waiting list is maintained according to the admissions criteria - so you can move down a waiting list as well as up, for example if distance is used to decide places then a child who moves into the area closer than a child already on the waiting list will go above them, if that makes sense?

The situation you describe depends on the criteria the school uses, and whether they differentiate between siblings in catchment and siblings out of catchment.

Depends on their admissions policy, which will be on their website.

As far as I'm aware the rule is

If it was done on distance my child would have got in as we live 250 yds from school with an intake of 60.

I will actually contact the LA to get her kept on list and will ask the question.

Your dd.is in the lowes category so even if this sibling lived 100 miles away they would take priority over your dd.regardless of how close you live.

Yes, she would leapfrog you as she's a sibling.

If you have the admissions criteria correct, then yes, she would leapfrog you as she fits into a higher admissions category. It doesn't matter about where she came from, or her parents previous decisions about having children in different schools - what matters is how she fits the criteria. Places on waiting lists can move down as well as up im afraid, no accounting is made for how long you have been on a list.
