What about ks1 SATs results?

Did you get a breakdown of your dc's results? We didn't and were told that schools only share the actual result if parents explicitly request them.

Is there any point in asking for the result / score?

Dc got theirs with their school report on Friday.

You won't get test scores unless you ask. The "grade" your child is given is teacher assessed not the test results

yes this is what we received as well. Just wanted to check if there is any use in asking for the actual scores or break down of scores.

Ah sorry no just got a print out with working at expected level next to each paper set alongside his school report.

We got our scaled scores today. I would be really interested to see how they compare. My ds did a lot better than we expected in some but I just wondered if this was quite common. He got:
113 for reading
107 for maths
102 for grammar

In Wales. We get the scores, together with scores from previous years, which is handy.

Some schools will send them out automatically, it's down to the school to decide how they do it. You can certainly request them though, just ask. There's no real 'he's in knowing the actual scores, but I would want to know, just to see if my DC struggled with the test format etc.

We didn't which I think is right. It makes an arbitrary govt test the focus, and how they "performed" when they could have been tired or bored or whatever.

Much more important is the teachers assessment of how they've done that year.

My DD got hers in percentages 98% for maths, 85% reading and at expected level for writing coursework.

Ok so I think you need to specifically ask what the test results are and the overall assessment from the teacher is the most relevant as that takes more of an overview of your child - but saying that they seem to have to stick to what has been stipulated at each of the levels ie working towards, expected or greater dept ?

The percentages were the test results. Writing was view of the teacher

We got the scores but I'm meh about it. These mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. I'm more interested in his teacher's comments.
Having done exams until I became an accountant, I know full well which ones do and don't count.
These don't.

Just to put this in to perspective a little, when my boy did the SATs last year, it consisted of small groups of children being seated at a table being given Smarties and Dolly Mixtures for having a crack at a few questions.

I really would not worry at all. The SATs will not tell you any more than you will know anyway from helping your child with homework and reading with them.

Key Stage 1 SATS are just one piece of evidence that the teacher will use as part of their assessment. It does help the school to track each child's progress, put in intervention where necessary, but I would be more interested in the school report, to be honest.

We just got given ours - didn't have to ask. His teacher comments were great but he was at expected and working towards in the spring so it was a surprise to see he was above expected. That's why I wondered about other people's scores; as in were the boundaries quite low?

FWIW I hate SATS. Our school handled them brilliantly for KS1 and made no reference to them or big deal about them.

I asked to see DS's last year. Can't be a data geek without data! They gave us scaled scores and numerical scores.

There was some data out there last year from a selection of schools who chose to share results - would be interesting to see how they compare if anyone's doing the same this year.

I don't know about "use", it's only how they scored on one day and one set of questions. But I find the teacher assessments pretty useless too in the new system, being both very broad bands, and one strike and you're out.
