End of reception. Had his report already and it was good, he got expected or exceeding for everything on EYFS.
What should I be asking to get the most out of it? It's an independent school if that's relevant.

If he's just had a report then maybe you don't need to attend at all if there are no issues?

Otherwise standard things to ask in infants:

  • behaviour
  • friendships
  • general social skills
and if they are all OK
  • maths next steps
  • reading next steps
  • writing next steps

Good ideas, thank you.
We probably don't really need to but we like to be as involved as possible, he's not one to tell us much what goes on at school.

Ask:

  • how he is getting on socially;
  • how ready for year one his teacher feels he is; and
  • what you should be working on over the summer holidays (mental arithmetic, handwriting etc).

Ask him if there's anything he wants you to tell the teacher, or if anything his bothering him/making him happy/what he enjoys.
