Piano Grade 2 ABRSM question

DS (10) is preparing for Grade 2 piano 9with a peripatetic teacher at school), and says he doesn't need to play the "repeats" of sections in his pieces. At first I assumed he meant just when he was learning/practising a new piece, but he's insisting he doesn't need to play them in the exam either.

Is he right?

yes, generally they don't play repeats. have a look in the small print at the bottom of the page, it usually says there if any need to be played. my daughter didn't play the repeats for any of her ABRSM pieces.

I think that's correct unless they are the kind of repeats where there's a bit that's different (Wiki link as I'm awful at explaining).

I think it would be useful for DS to check explicitly with teacher "Do I play these repeats in the exam or go straight through?" and get teacher to mark the sheet music.

It's written on the first page(back of the front cover) of the exam pieces book.

If you have any music questions, you should go to ex-curricular board and go to Music Thread of the months. There are many very experienced musicians and gives you good advice.

Unless it states is at the bottom of the page, the candidate does not do repeats, or 1st time bars- only DC and DS al Fine.
