I'm assuming all the children taking this have finished it now. How was the screening this year? Is the threshold level likely to be 32 again?

They are always in the week of 15 June.

How odd. It must have been very low key and seemed normal, which is great. Just as it should be.

The check could be administered between 12th -23rd June this year. It takes about 2 minutes for an average reader.

gallicgirl · 25/06/2017 10:19

She's a good reader and I know they do work on spotting pseudo words so it probably seemed just like another activity to her.

mrz · 25/06/2017 10:47

She doesn't need to be able to spot pseudo words

gallicgirl · 25/06/2017 11:42

You mean she needs to be able to read them? She can do this and also knows they're not real words.

The teacher tells the child the words on this page a made up ...there's no need to train children to recognise pseudo words. It's actually counterproductive as at age 6 a child doesn't have a wide enough vocabulary to recognise unfamiliar words as real when they are encountered in text and may wrongly dismiss as "alien".

32 still the expected standard.

And chum and blot were the two words DD didn't know, although DP didn't know my second definition of chum either.
