Hi guys

So I'm finally going back to work after having dc1. I work in a school as a teacher. I was recently told that in September I wouldn't be teaching a class rather I would be covering other teachers when they are off or have free time.

I'm told this was to help me ease back in to school life and I'm confused as to is this allowed?? As a teacher can I be told that I have to be a cover teacher?

I think it's fairly normal.. At least in our school it is! We have some teachers who have no class, and act as in-house cover. The rest of the time they are used for interventions. They are teachers who have recently been on maternity leave. I think it suits the teachers, to be fair.

Yes this is quite usual - it is more manageable in some ways. Some lessons can be repeated. In others it can be confusing as in primary you're used to running your own ship!

My sons school has a couple of extra teachers to cover this.

How long have you been out?? PPA cover/ SLT release roles are pretty common. How was this being done last time you were in school?

What an odd post! Have you never heard of PPA before?

I wouldn't enjoy not having a class but there are some serious benefits - no parents to deal with, no parents evening, no reports, less marking as generally not teaching English/Maths, get to know kids across the school. Prob more

If you've had more than 6 months they only have to give you a job at the same level, not necessarily the same job.

Hoe long have you been out of teaching-is this a job you are returning to after maternity leave or have you applied for and got a new job starting in September? Or are you there working now?
