Quick question on training.

Assuming one is already educated to degree level what is the shortest length of time from beginning a PCGE in primary education to starting teaching?

One year. (September to about mid June).

Some schools will then employ from Mid June and pay over the summer. Many have a September start.

Would you have a placement within that time period?

As in, a placement during the time period of the pgce? Yes! Depends on the university, but our local one does 2 longer placements (end oct-dec and end Apr-end June) and then a shorter one during the spring term. There are a minimum number of days that have to be spent in school. Very little time seems to be spent at uni in lectures.

Yes sorry for the delay. Like birdy said. They are contrasting placements where possible. During the week there is normally one afternoon a week when you have the university or provider training - lectures normally given by either people running the course or practising teachers etc who they invite in. Courses normally also have a series of assignments to complete during the year, on top of the teaching aspect.

It's a pretty intense year, but pales into insignificance next to the NQT year.
