Moving away from area

Hi everyone.
Just wanted to know if anyone could help me with a few questions.

To cut a long story short my husband of 6 years has decided he wants to leave - well actually he wants to sell the house.

I don't know anyone in the area - no family and no friends as we only moved here very recently. I have decided to move away to be closer to family but my son is due to start reception in September. He got his first choice of school and I have accepted the place (prior to my husbands decision).

Who do I need to contact to see if there is a place at a different school? The school I want him to go to was oversubscribed last year but this year there has been a new school opened close by so I am hoping there may be spaces. I don't have an address as the house has not been sold yet and I don't actually know where I will be living. Would I be able to give a family members address for the meantime?

You would need to contact the local admissions authority for the new area - normally it's the local authority. They won't be able to allocate you a place until you above a provable address in their area though I afraid, not just a relatives address (unless you will actually be living there).

Just an addendum - if the school you want actually has places they have to give one to you regardless of where you live. The issue with the address will come into it if you need to apply for other schools and go on waiting lists.

Thank you for your replies. So I found out I can still make a late application but this is only until early next week. Obviously I can't find somewhere to live in that short space of time. I have previously lived there and was thinking to put my last rented address down on the application. Will they check up on this?

I will hopefully find somewhere in the area late July/August.
