Age related expectations - handwriting

Can anyone explain to me what the age related expectations are in handwriting by the time a child gets to year 6? Should they be able to or always writing in cursive for example?

The expectation is that, by the end of year 6 children should
: maintaining legibility, fluency and speed in handwriting through choosing whether or not to join specific letters.
Where pupils are physically able to write and meet all of the statements except for being able to produce legible handwriting, they may be awarded the ‘expected standard’ but cannot be
awarded the ‘greater depth’ standard. This refers to the final statements within ‘Working towards’ and ‘Working at the expected standard’
