St Lawrence college - Ramsgate

Anyone with information about this school. Thinking of applying for boarding place for yr 7 class.

Have been there a few times for various things (no children there myself at present but on the list for secondary level). Nice place with a good feel about it, lovely buildings, strong sport and music and excellent facilities. I know of one child who boarded from yr 7 and was very happy there. The thing that currently puts me off a bit is that it isn't in the nicest of areas and I would worry about the opportunities for independent after school activities/socialising off site/walking to town etc... Kings Canterbury (v expensive but excellent), Kent College and St Eds in Canterbury (similar fees to St Lawrence) are worth a look too if you haven't already and both are well within walking distance of the City Centre which for me is a plus because of the social aspect, especially for a boarder.

A friends son goes there and she is very happy. Previously had children at a very selective school in London.

The exact area the school is in is not the nicest but Ramsgate itself is getting better all the time and of course you have Broadstairs very near. The Loop bus offers great transport and there are so many beaches, festivals, cheap cinemas and of course easy train commute to Canterbury and London.

I live in Ramsgate and it is rough around the edges but actually really lovely. My husband commutes into London and we have decided to stay put here because our quality of life at time the weekends with him are greater than we could have many other places.
