Moving to Appleton, Warrington - schools help!

We're about to move to Appleton in Warrington following my husbands job moving. Part of this means changing my son's school, and I'm agonising trying to fill in the Warrington in year admissions school choices form.

We've visited both Stretton St Matthews and Appleton Thorn Primary but are struggling to choose between them - they both seem really nice, but really want to find the best fit for my son following the upheaval of changing schools - does anyone have any advice or info to share on these schools please that you can't gather from visiting them??

Thanks in advance

If these two I would choose St Matthews but no concrete reason why. They were two and three on our application but going to a small village school which was our first choice. Do they both have spaces in the year you need.

It's a great area for schools and both that you have mentioned have a great reputation. Both are small, friendly schools and I would have thought both would be welcoming. I do know the head at Appleton Thorn is leaving (if he hasn't already) so putting all else aside that may influence my choice.

All in all you can't really go wrong with either, would you be able to walk to either from where you'll be living?

Have you considered Grappenhall Heys Primary atall? That is also a great school. Has been oversubscribed in recent years so perhaps no space, but I do know people who have joined there after reception who gave settled in well and have been really happy with it.

Good luck with the move.

Thank you so much for the advice - we can walk to St Matthews but a short drive to Appleton Thorn, which currently makes St M our number one.

You're right akdmummy Appleton Thorn has just changed Head Teachers and even though we have met the new one and liked her, it does make us a little nervous about what impact it may have on staff/school.

Both have spaces at the moment which is a great place to be! Grapenhall Heys has a long waiting list otherwise that would have definitely been on our list!

Thank you for helping to clear the fog Smile
