I've just been browsing through the Angels and Urchins schools guide for some help with narrowing down a private school in Fulham. Our first child, a boy, is due to arrive in mid august (timed that perfectly for school didn't I Hmm ) Does anyone know anything about the following schools:

  • Fulham Prep
  • Parsons Green Prep School
  • Thomas's Fulham
  • Sinclair House

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I know lots who send their kids to Thomas's Fulham and are very happy with it. Its a good school, but very difficult to get in. I am not sure if it is true, but heard its very difficult to get summer born children in. Fulham Prep is a lot easier to get in, as all the kids that did not get into Thomas's got into Fulham Prep and all parents say they are happy with the school. Have not heard much about the other schools. The people who live in this area and go private tend to apply to Thomas's, Fulham Prep and kensington prep (if you have a girl). At least, the people I know in the area anyway :)

I suggest registering at all of those schools as soon as possible after your son is born. You may also want to consider the new Wetherby at Earls Court and similarly the new Falkner House boys' school.

You can then deal with any entry requirements (assessments etc) in due course, over the coming years.

But registration at 4-5 schools as early as possible will be best.

I would just register at Thomas's, Fulham Prep and the Merlin School (in Putney but very popular with families in Fulham. The others you can visit at some point but really don't need to register at birth. Think about nurseries as well.

Agree with much that has been said before. Just register with any school you are interested in - I only really know Thomas's and Fulham Prep. Both good schools - people I know with DC there are happy. Thomas's is selective for reception entry whereas Fulham Prep is first come first served - so register when he's born and you'll be sure to have a place. Merlin stops at 8 I think so you are committing to the 8+ process (or 7+??).

I believe that Fulham Prep are about to open a senior school and anyone in the prep gets automatic entry to senior school. Saves a lot of angst at 11+/13+ or is a good safety net whichever way you look at it.

Good luck in August!!
