PTA people - a question

Have you ever cancelled an event due to lack of response/ticket sales?

We've just cancelled one and I feel really bad about it. Not my decision - a group of us had a meeting and decided to go ahead (with a bit of an action plan for boosting ticket sales this week) but then a subsequent discussion in the playground, with others chipping in, ended up in it being cancelled. Before we even had time to breathe, the band, room etc had been cancelled so we can't go back now. Oooh, it's a long story but I'm really riled about it. Just wondering if anyone else has had to do this and did it affect future events, perception of the PTA blah blah?

we had to cancel an event last yr - rather galling as the same event had previously been successful.

Just had the same experience. I'd organised an event for the kids, by myself, but sold so few tickets it was laughable. The same event has been running every year for donkeys. Of course, once the Committee decided it should be cancelled and I'd passed on the info, everyone suddenly decided they wanted to go and I was bombarded with e-mails from parents saying how disappointed everyone was - some of them quite unpleasantly. Anyway, I've got over the shame of it now and I've realised that I could not possibly have pleased everyone. It pi$$es me off that my daughter got some grief about my "poor" organisational skills, though, as though it had anything to do with her.

Ditto - this event raised £2K last year and it sold out in a week. I just don't know what we did wrong this year - poor timing perhaps - we didn't do anything differently.

Just feel as though it reflects poorly on us.
