New End Primary School, Hampstead

My DD goes to a private school in Hampstead. She has now been offered a place at New End Primary School in Hampstead a couple of days back.

We are keen to hear any feedback that parents have about this school (both positive as well as negative, if any), as we are debating between continuing her in her current school vs switching over to New End Primary.

Thanks in advance for the responses.

We moved from private to New End at Reception and have been very happy.

Hi there - appreciate this thread is a little old but keen to understand what the experiences have been at New End. We are relocating from over seas and have very little knowledge of the area so keen to get this as right as I can! Many Thanks

I'm also keen to hear anything on New End or other local schools given the meltdown at Heathside School. Would American children get into a UK state school?

Hi Jane, what do you mean by meltdown at Heathside?

@Jane000 if you have a residential address in Hampstead your child will be eligible for a place at a local school. See Camden's primary education pages (www.camden.gov.uk/theme/fc-sw2/ccm/navigation/education/camden-schools/primary-schools/) for details. You can only apply when you have an address in the area though, not from abroad. You'll be asked to prove your address. All the primaries in Hampstead are terrific, and have only ever heard great things of New End.

Also, coming from the US you may find New End a very good fit, it's multicultural and there's no uniform (unlike the other Hampstead primaries). Arriving in January your children would be classed as "in year admissions" but there's always fluidity in primaries in the area, thanks to family relocation and the ups and downs of the birth rate in different year groups.

I don't know what the affect of the Heathside situation will be, but it could well turn out that many of those families will choose to stay in the independent sector so it may not have as much of an impact as you might think. If you already have your address in London sorted, you could find it worthwhile calling Camden to discuss your options. Good luck with your relocation, Hampstead is an amazing place to live.
