Kensington Prep vs Wimbledon High

Our DD got an offer from Ken Prep and Wimbledon High but not Putney. We are absolutely delighted but at the same time gutted as we live close to Putney and that was our first choice. We need to decide very soon but we are unsure which school we shd go for. In terms of distance, we live in between both schools. I am leaning towards Wimbledon as it goes all the way till 18 whereas DH prefers Kensington as it is a better school than Wimbledon. If only DD could stay in Ken Prep all the way till 18, then Ken Prep is the obvious choice as we both really like the school.
DD is a quiet and shy girl so i am not sure she will be better suited for which school. Would appreciate any views on either school from other parents. Help please!

Has anybody had experience with siblings policy at Ken prep?

RoccoW14 · 02/02/2017 17:10

Regarding the sibling policy at KPS, it seems most go, but the school reserves the right to reject. If you want further details, call them and ask how many siblings have been rejected over the last 3 years or so. That should give you a sense..

If you live 5mins from KPS why would you NOT take it? It's a great school....why would you consider a commute with a small child if you don't have to? Also think about having local friends, easy playdates etc. There won't be many FH families in SW6.

Re: sibling policy. It seems most go, but there is no guarantee and they have to pass the entry test. Agree with RoccoW14 advice.

LadyOhdear,
I think you are right. I really liked Mrs Griggs I thought your energy and passion for education was infectious. I felt the place was very living and nurturing. Several sw6 families commute there and seem very happy about it.

Gella08 · 02/02/2017 17:53

I also did not expect to get KP and suddenly you wonder why commute if you have a great choice close to you with local friends as you say...

Gella08 · 02/02/2017 17:56

Re siblings I heard 8 out of 10 this year got which is very high. I was surprised that only 10 siblings were applying it seems low compared to the total numbers of girls in the school. So not sure how accurate the stat is

Just out of interest, with acceptances due by 12 today at KPS, what decisions are being made?

Congrats on the decision user1485881724. It's a really difficult decision (we went round and round in circles before deciding on KP) - we'll look forward to seeing you in Sept!

RoccoW14 · 03/02/2017 11:49

Congrats! We also had a decision to make where we had an offer from a closer non-selective school. The commute would have been easier, but the outside space, facilities, results etc.. at KPS made it a pretty easy decision in the end.

Gella08 · 03/02/2017 12:45

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for the comments and input. We also went for KPS this morning.
Xxx

PrepSchoolMum2017 · 03/02/2017 13:52

Hurrah! So that's four of us with DDs going to KP. Hopefully meet you all in the summer term.

Gella08 · 18/02/2017 21:45

Hi ladies,
Hope you all keeping well. Does anyone know when we are going to be invited for thé playdate at Ken prep?
Really keen to meet girls and parents!
See you all very soon!

PrepSchoolMum2017 · 18/02/2017 22:22

Hi Gella08 - Is your DD starting Reception in Sept? If so, it's the summer term when they go in for a taster class. But it's just 4 or 5 at a time joining the existing Reception class for a couple of hours to meet the teacher & get acquainted with the school. I don't think the whole class get together before term starts. I did ask whether there was a parents' get together as I know a lot of prep schools do them, but KP said probably not. I'd be keen to meet up with other KP mums and DDs over the summer hols if others were too. Would be nice for the girls to have a few familiar faces on their first day!

Gella08 · 19/02/2017 07:05

Thank you so much for you response prepschoolmum2017.
