11+ Question

DS2 is currently in Year 5 and goes to a tutor once a week for the 11+.

I try to encourage him to do a bit extra every week, especially on verbal (his weakest area)

He is a bright boy, always in the top groups etc but, recently, hasn't seems that interested in school. Not sure if his hormones are kicking in? He was 10 last October but his motivation for school/any extra 11+ stuff has definitely decreased.

I'm panicking a bit......!

Any advice welcomed.

Does he feel there is a lot of pressure on him to somehow do good in the 11+?

DS was considered one of the brightest in his class and did well was in top sets. Dh and I were not that concerned about his ability to pass and due to this missed how anxious he had got about his friends expectations. In retrospect I wish I had spoken to him about how what mattered was that he was envying himself and doing his best more often than we did.

He is now in a grammar school and loving it. However the time around the 11+ was a anxious time and when I look back at my then 10 year old I do feel I could have supported more.

In your case you say ds2 is he likely to be worried he wont match u to ds 1? Or is he simply feeling that he only has one thing that " matters" to others?

Perhaps the tutor is not very inspiring and motovating enough: find a new one.
