School uniform - logo or non-logo?

My dd is starting a new school after Christmas. Apparently most of the children have logo polo shirts but I'm sure I've read on MN that logo stuff is stolen more often.

Also I've heard that Sainsbury's is very good for uniform. Any experience?

I don't bother buying the polo shirts with a logo. I buy the standard ones from Asda, Sainsburys or Aldi. They get stained literally every week and it would cost me an absolute fortune if I were to buy the logo ones. It costs enough replacing the standard ones!

The only thing I buy with a logo is the cardigan or jumper and that is rare. I often get 'given' a cardigan by the school from lost property because she is always losing hers or leaving it at the school

I've also had things go missing never to be found again so I simply won't invest any more in all of the school branded clothing and items

Don't they wear a cardy or jumper over the polo shirt? So you won't see the logo.

I buy cardigans and jumpers from supermarkets and have the logo put on for a fiver each. They wear plain polo shirts underneath.

Do they still do that HeCantBeSerious? I'd love to be able to get hold of some badges to sew on, it would be so much cheaper

Only logos I get are on the cardigan and sweatshirt. Everything else is plain from Sainsburys (excellent quality).

For primary schools I never buy logo items, they always cost considerably more than supermarkets and will need replacing often several times through the school year.

If you really do want a logo item choose the jumper or cardigan and use it for photos and school trips. If they're painting/gluing/gardening etc you will be looking at replacing it frequently. High schools it's usually compulsory so you can't get away with it there.

Logo sweatshirt, they are much warmer than generic supermarket ones, but plain polo shirts

My DS is still wearing the logo-ed jumper I bought him for nursery (aged 3) - he's now 6!

My mum always got the 3 of us proper logo school uniform. I will be doing the same when my children go to school. I'd prefer them to wear proper uniform.

I don't like sweatshirts anyway - and my dd has dyspraxia so I always buy her cardigans.

I don't think polo shirts are likely to go missing as they are normally wearing them. If something goes astray at the end of PE they will try to find it as obviously it is somewhere.

Jumpers/cardigans most likely to get lost, followed by PE kit.

You may find the PTA does second hand uniform which can cut costs a lot. Ours sold logo items at £1 an item.

Check with parents what the school care about - our schoool has logo PE T-shirts but unless child is in a team, most just have plain white. I got logo polos as it was a hassle to get to an Asda which is only place with right colour, and logo ones were delivered. If they get stained etc, they're under a sweatshirt so don't really care.

Sainsburys trousers are certainly good and very adjustable at the waist, plus tough at the knees!

I have a mix of logos and plain. I prefer the logo t shirts, much better quality than supermarket. I hate the logo cardigans, they are bulky and just look awful. Prefer debenhams and m and s for trousers, dresses and skirts. The sainsburys plain jumpers and cardigans are great.

I bought this shirts with logo. I wasn't going to but I spent lots of time I'm the school during the summer term ànd not 1 child was wearing a thirty without a logo so I bought logo.

No chance with my DD, she is 4 and is constantly loosing her cardigans and jumpers so I don't bother. She looks lovely in her smart uniform minus the logos. When she stops loosing them then ill think about it

Check with other parents in the school. Logo polo shirts were worn by virtually every child. Occasional grumpy emails about correct uniform including polos. There was a good secondhand shop. It all depends on the school culture. Never had any stolen.

my dd has dyspraxia so I always buy her cardigans.

My DS has some fine motor control problems but hasn't got a diagnosis, but he's hopeless with buttons (at least, he can do big ones in theory but won't try, and can't do small ones) so I'm a bit confused why cardigans are better for your DD!

We got one logo sweatshirt (partly for photos) which wasn't much more than a plain one, as it's an unusual colour so not as easy to get in the supermarket. I have never seen a plain one in our school colour for at £5 saving over the logo one for school though so it would be rather pointless to get the plain ones embroidered for £5.

Polo shirts were from BHS in their closing down sale, multipacks, we will not be buying logo polo shirts ever. PE t-shirt is also in an unusual (different - team) colour so we got one from school with a logo (as it wasn't any more than without, or they didn't have any without - can't remember which).

I want sh I could get polo shirts with alternative fastenings to buttons. My DS has similar motor issues (hopefully see a OT in next six months) and buttons are a nightmare.

When she was in reception she couldn't do buttons. She's 7 now so she can. She just gets there later. At the moment she wouldn't be able to tie a shoe. So at the moment cardigans are easier as they don't need to be pulled over head. She can't even get socks on the right way.

our school is prob 50% non logo with more logo in early years then people abandon it. School are not fussed with it anyway. You can wear anything really and 95% opt for school colours. Other schools insist however!
