After school SATS booster groups

Is this a standard thing? DS1, Yr6, has an invite for 2 groups, both an hour a week after school (no charge). It doesn't say exactly how many weeks it's for, but it is more than 1. DS1 really doesn't want to go and I'm not inclined to make him.

My year 5 child came out pleased as punch as they had done a Yr6 SATs paper today. He got a very good mark, but really the school has gone absolutely gaga over SATs. Maybe they will substitute him for his brother who loathes tests and thinks that school "has gone absolutely mad with non-stop competitions."
