Does anyone have DC here? Would you recommend it? We are looking at it for our DD to start in reception this September. We love the emphasis on sport and art and it seemed a very friendly community. I have no idea how academic she will be but are they able to cater well for all abilities? We have looked at Bromley High but I am not sure if that is a little too academic for DD at 4. Many thanks.

I have two dc there. We think it is great - our experience is that it caters for all abilities and we love that it is a mixed, happy primary school, with loads of space and great wrap around care too. My eldest is doing brilliantly after a slow start to reading and writing (at another sch).

Hi Chalky yes you have but I think your boys had just started ! Glad to hear they are doing well & are happy further down the line. What you have described is just what we are after.

Yes I have 2 DDs there. Lovely school and they deal well with both the academically able and those who need more support. Great opportunities for arts and sports though this becomes more of an option with clubs from year 3 onwards really than in the earlier years. Breakfast and after school care is brilliant too and you can book regularly into this or on an ad hoc basis when needed.

Thanks beautiful. DD has her taster day / assessment session this week so fingers crossed! I'm hoping the session isn't too formal ? I don't really know how academic or not she will be, I just want her to go somewhere nurturing and lovely that builds her confidence (she can be very shy).

It's really just a play session in the pre reception rooms I think if it's like what my youngest did. Head of early years is fab - hope it goes ok!

So DD loved her "assesment" and we've been offered a place ! So pleased.

Great news! Do look at the FPA second hand uniform shop as the quality of the stock they have there is usually excellent and you may get quite a bit of her uniform there and save a good deal of money in the process.

I don't know about Farringtons, but seriously, Bromley High is not "too academic". They follow the national curriculum, so if it is "too academic", then so are most primary schools in the UK.

I do know some people who have had children at Farringtons, and were very happy with it, but I don't know anyone with children there now (my DC are older).

It may not be too academic (I have boys so not looked at it) but I do know from friends it is competitive and selective at 4+.

Yes, it is selective at 4+. Its oversubscribed, so they can't make offers to everyone that wants a place.

Once they are in the school, it is not competitive, any more than other schools. The children are not ranked against each other, for example. They are very good with DC who have SEN, which are often not able to be diagnosed at the age of 4.

I am speaking from first hand experience about the school, having had DDs there.

Chalky and beautiful do you when I should apply for a place in FIZ club ? We will need morning & after school three days a week I don't want all the places to go ! wondered if now DD has been offered a place I can get her name down?

Fiz is a termly booking and all children need to rebook each term. We have never had a problem getting places before or after school and do both regular after school sessions and occasional breakfast and after school extra sessions at short notice too. The school will send you the relevant info nearer the start date and you will be able to book then. No need to book early or worry you won't get the place and times you need.
