Piano keyboard

My son (aged 5) is going to start piano lessons in the New Year so we are planning to getting a weighted keyboard for him to practise on at home.

If he gets really keen, we will look into a piano but as I would have to get rid of at least one bit of furniture to find wall space for it, I'm not getting a piano right away.

Do any of you have keyboard recommendations?

As he is very young, small keys. He will struggle with larger ones. He will not need very many octaves to begin with. Ask the teacher for recommendations.

(And how are your acers and heucheras from two years ago getting on? Our heuchera "Binoche" was almost black in summer, now a nice shade of red.)

Our DD started age 5 on a baby grand piano and hasn't struggled with the size of the keys...

(not our baby grand, in case it seemed like a stealth boast!)

My heucheras etc have done really well in one spot but have died in another - although shady, I think it was too dry.

No, I don't play. The school recommend violin and piano for Reception aged children. I used to play the trumpet but haven't touched it for years.

Absolutely full sized keys essential from the start. Little fingers learn and cope with their size but it is very hard to move onto full size keys later if they have become used to smaller distances between keys. I have one of these www.yamahamusiclondon.com/P-45-Portable-Piano-Pack/pidBTS2016-P45 and it is the closest I have found to a real piano, though I basically only use it for events, I don't really play it at home as I also have a piano that I prefer.
