Choosing primary school without visiting it

I have to choose ds1's 3 primary school choices without visiting them as we live in NY and will return in time for his first year at school, but will not be back before then. Other than the Ofsted reports and school websites what can I base my choices on/ look at?

You could contact the head and ask any specific questions that you might have...?

See if the school is mentioned frequently in local estate agent details. If they all say "in xyz catchment area" you know it's considered a good school.
