Expectations of parents evening

I've got a meeting with DD's teacher soon for the first of the two parent's meetings we get per school year. What would you expect to find out at these meetings? DD is in Scotland, primary 2. I'm asking as I find it spectacularly uninformative - all I gathered from last year was that she doesn't seem to need additional support.

is reading at expected level? what are next steps?
is writing at expected level? what are next steps?
is maths at expected level? what are next steps?

that's helpful - so you'd ask if those were at the expected level. So far it seems there are no problems but hard to get a sense otherwise.

Teachers don't seem to like to say 'your DC's spelling is rubbish' so it can be hard to get them to commit. I think some parents don't like hearing things clearly so they get used to wrapping everything up so much the message gets lost.

So I go in and say 'I am concerned about XXX' what can I do to help.

But otherwise, say you think reading is fine, you can always ask for recommendations to vary genres or whatever. Or maths is fine, so how to stretch.

What does your DC say about school? e.g. If they think maths is 'boring' you can say 'DC says maths is boring, is he being stretched enough'

dd generally says school is boring, but that's all we can mostly get out of her. She's like a spy. It used to be amusing but now I'm concerned that I have no idea whether she's going well, badly but not badly enough to require extra teaching etc.
