DD is year 1 and says she is bored in class, she reads well and is generally bright. I was going to mention it at parents evening tonight, but last night dd came home withno books from school cos teh teacher has taken them to the headmistress, so is this a positive thing, I know that 2 other girls have had the same thing happen, do you think the school may hav realised but what will they do to make lessons more interesting for them

since you have a parents evening tonight I would just ask them about it. Is it a recent thing ?

gothicmama · 07/02/2007 14:06

yes it is recent happenned yesterday so I guess the teacher is checking something for parents evening so I will be brave and ask - I hate parents evenings don't know why just do I seem to revert to the eightyear old I used to be

I had this with my DS- make sure you bring it up at parents evening, as these things can be overlooked by staff if child is quiet!

gothicmama · 07/02/2007 14:16

yes I will bring it up- I am going to practice what I want to say now

Bear in mind that the yr 1 teacher will not move them too far ahead so as to give the impression that the child still appears to be progressing well in year 2 It is almost impossible to go above level 3 in year 2 (basically because level 5 is the primary maximum) and if a child does not move up two levels in key stage 2 then the added value for that school does not look good.

thank you astronomer this is interesting and guess something to consider I just don't wanther to be bored at school there is enough time fo rthat when she is a teenager

The head at the school I work for often asks for a sample of books/folders from the class so she can have a look through them.

If you do have any concerns then parents night is an ideal time to air them.

mistymoo you were spot on it was just to check which is a relief, think sh eis bored cos she is not doing art all the time
