Restriction on class size numbers after Reception year?

I know that Reception and Y1 and possibbly Y2 have restrctions on class sizes, but does anyone know if after these years there is a limit? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that after these years class sizes can be as large as they like as long as the room is big enough, is that right or have I imagined it? Thanks very much

That's right. Key Stage One which is YR, Y1 & Y2 are capped at 30. KS2, years 3-6 does not have a cap so it's up to the head and board of governors. They would usually hover around the low 30s, but I've seen classes go up to 38.

Thanks Ladybird I thought that might be the case..

No HT in their right mind would allow a class to go up to 38 children - not if they don't wish to see staff resigning en masse. It is wholly untenable.

2 of my DC spent both yr3 and 4 in classes of 38 and 39 respectively so it does happen. Mind you all 5 of my DC were never in a class of 30 or below for key stage one either.

Thanks everyone, I'm amazed classes can be so big.
