I weigh in OZ (balancing scales so no guages)

Do I have to convert it....or do we give it in in 'oz's??

If she has to produce a list of weights in grammes, weigh in ounces and convert:

1 ounce = 28.349523125 grammes

emsiewill · 04/02/2007 11:48

According to google, 1 ounce = 28.3495231 grams, so to convert oz to g, multiply the number of oz by 28.35 (rounding up a little, I realise).

Does that help?

Katymac · 04/02/2007 11:48

Yep - she's 9 do I convert or her?

X post - glad we had the same answer

My dd is just 10 & I would get her to do it, but she is v good at maths and it wouldn't phase her, depends on your dd really.

Katymac · 04/02/2007 11:50

so help me

what is 3lbs 13oz multiplied by 28.35.........

OP posts:
Katymac · 04/02/2007 11:52

I think we will just hand it in as is

She can't be blamed if we don't have the right scales

I'm sure there are people without any scales

OK. So there are 16 oz in a lb, so 3lbs = 48oz. Add the extra 13oz to that and you get 61oz. 61 multiplied by 28.35=1729.35g, which is 1kilo 729 grams. (as there are 1000g in a kilo)

HTH

Put both in, and she should get extra marks for doing the conversion!

Katymac · 04/02/2007 11:57

Thanks - she doesn't do decimal points yet (well not multiply anyway - only add & subtract)

OP posts:
emsiewill · 04/02/2007 11:58

Well you could put in the first part of the conversion (working out the no of oz) and then just multiply by 28, which gives 1708, and say that this is approximate...

Katymac · 04/02/2007 12:35

Blimey that was very hard work

I had to break each sum down into little bits

Finally done
