DD starts school tomorrow....do I take ALL her stuff in?

Potentially stupid question.

Getting DD's stuff ready for school and the bumpf tells us that she should have 1) PE kit in a bag (shorts, tshirt, socks, pumps) 2) spare change of clothes in a bag 3) outdoor stuff in a bag (wellies, waterproof coat) 4) book bag 5) water bottle

Do i take all of this stuff in with us on the first day? I was labelling and getting it all together last night and felt like i was packing for a fortnights holiday!

I realise this isn't a mega important question and i'm overthinking and worrying about her first day but i don't know anyone else at the school yet so don't know what the done thing is....

I would take everything except the PE kit I think.
When mine started reception, I don't think they changed for PE until after Christmas!!

Agree to leave the PE kit at home. Can't believe in the first week or so they will have PE at all. TBH I would leave the outdoor stuff at home too - the weather forecast is amazing and unless she's going to leave it safely in the cloakroom somewhere for the entire term, she's not going to need it tomorrow. But she will need her water bottle, spare clothes and book bag. Hope she (and you) have a wonderful first day!

Woah, that's a load of stuff! Do they have huge storage areas for each child? My DS just takes his lunch and snack in a backpack. If the weather's bad he wears appropriate stuff to school. They do PE in their underwear. They have a box of emergency clothes for kids who need it. No book bag.

I wouldn't leave the PE kit at home. Our school did PE from week 1 of reception, so it is possible she will need it. Once it's there it can stay there though.

I would take it all in.

I would and do take the PE kit in to school the first day of term and it stays there all half term. As they will probably on do 2 hours a week it also means it's always there.

Leave the wet weather stuff at home until the weather gets worse. I can't see it being used for a month or so looking at the forecasts.

Why do you need a change of clothes.

Take it all in. When my DS started school some parents didn't take the PE kit in on day 1 and the teacher asked for it.

Take a big Aldi / IKEA bag with all the little bags inside. Then you can offload all the stuff into its new homes without having the blood circulation cut off from carrying lots of little bags..

DS1's class did PE on the first day in reception.
But the system there is to bring the PE kit in on Monday, and take it home on Friday, so it's not carried backwards and forwards every day anyway. They also use the PE kit as spares in the event of toilet accidents. Wellies stay in school all year except for holidays.

The only things we have to take home every day are the book bag, water bottle and coats.

I've just sent in book bag, water bottle and some spare pants. They did say that she wouldn't be doing PE for the first fortnight or something but I can't remember how long. We don't have to have wellies or anything though.

Ours left pe kit and wellies in the classroom the pe kit lived on their hook and comes home at each half term and the wellies they kept on a rack by the door as the kids had constant access to outside.

Bookbag with water bottle was taken every day as was coat.

I'd take 2,4 and 5. When DS started I took 2 and 5 as I didn't have 4.

Why not ring the school and ask them (presuming someone will be there today)?

Take it I n, the school have given you the list because your child needs it all I n school. A group of random mums on a forum won't know the specifics of your particular child's class arrangements.

Thank you for the helpful answers. I'll take it in but might leave the outdoor stuff/pe kit in the car....I can always run back and get it if need be.....it just seems like so much stuff!

I would take it all. The PE bag/change of clothes probably won't need to be brought home till holiday time so once it's there it's there and you don't need to take it everyday.

Don't take wellies or waterproof if it's not going to rain !

That's what i'm thinking now Eccentric.

I can't see them doing PE either straight away or needing wellies but if there's a place to store this stuff then she'll have it when she needs it. Or I can take it back home with me.

Now i've just got to stop staring at baby pictures of her and crying. Yay!
