Starting Reception and not liking full days.

DD started reception last week. She was attending half days last year in nursery. She is really enjoying school and comes out happy and smiling but everyday says it's too long and she wants to go back to nursery and just do short days. Any tips or advice for what I can say to her when she says this?

Too bad??? My ds was 4 in the August and went full time in Sept. He was always asleep when I went to collect him at 3!! Its harsh when they are so small.

This is why kids did half days from 2.5 and full days from 3. They need to keep up the pace . No naps aged 3!

She will get used to it. However, you also have the option of sending her part time. That is your choice, NOT the school's. She does not have to attend full time until the term following her fifth birthday.

My DD is going to be like this. She has one more week of just mornings, and then it will be full days. I tried sending her for full days at preschool after Easter and it backfired massively. She cried so much they suggesting dropping back to half days.

I'm just steeling myself to toughen up a bit and send her despite the crying and pleading. She will get used to it and she has to go to school. She'll be compulsory school age after Christmas anyway, so sending part time not an option - and I'm not sure it would be a good move even if she wasn't. I'd worry that she would miss out on forming friendships if she only attended part time.

So, I sympathise but it's early days. Just try riding it out a bit longer?

Thanks all Another few weeks and I'm sure she'll be fine. She does love it, it's just the "not again"s and "all day?!?!!"s that we get. It's such a big transition, especially after 6 weeks off that she's exhausted. Her face Tuesday when I said we were going again was absolutely comical.
Friday we had Haribo in the car. Thursday I went for the "if you don't go mummy will get into trouble with the policeman... " it worked, but I'm not too sure how sensible it was!?!? Tomorrow I'm going to opt for "But don't you want to see your friends and tell them about your exciting weekend and find out about theirs?" And Tuesday is PE so I'm hoping that will entice her.
Thanks Frogs. It's a 10minute drive so could definitely try to get a banana or granola bar or something extra in her then too.

My son did mornings only for the whole of reception. It's your right to send your child part time till they are Complusory school age (term after they r 5).

Mine was full days at preschool and is only mornings at school till next week, and was still exhausted on Friday. I think getting to know new people and new rules is all very tiring. Hopefully they'll get in the swing of it soon!
