Roald Dahl Dress Up Day - HELP PLEASE!!!!

oompaloompaland · 05/09/2016 12:56

You can tell that you're back at school, when the first letters come out about the latest dressing-up initiative. To celebrate Roald Dahl's 100th anniversary, the school are doing a dress-up day. DD is 10. Has anyone any suggestions please as to what we can do? I've got a week to pull something together (am reasonably handy and could make something if I had any ideas, but am clueless). Would really like to avoid Matilda if at all possible. Thank you.

We tied a green cushion to ds2' back and he was Alfie from Esio Trot. Ds1 wore a checked shirt and bandana and carried his nerf guns (no ammo) as Mike TV.

Dd2 did Sophie last time in her big Victorian nightie with her hair in plaits. She wears glasses anyway. Dd1 went as Mr Twit with a fantastic homemade beard. Grin

Miss spider or ladybird from James and the giant peach would be easy to do and unusual I would imagine.

Iamnotminterested · 09/09/2016 13:09

DD3 dressed as The Enormous Crocodile with a note pinned to her back saying "not to scale" whilst in nursery Wink.

MamOfTwo · 09/09/2016 14:20

I have a glasses wearer so Sophie it is! Although can't remember what colour nightie/dress she has.

Artandco · 09/09/2016 14:24

Omg, mine haven't had this suggests day the school yet, but they would live to go as the twits!

Old clothes, permission to roll in the park on the way to school. Job done

PatriciaHolm · 09/09/2016 14:28

never to late Art, our school suggested it today!!

DS I think will go as a WW2 fighter pilot - Dahl himself. He loved the autobiographies.

DD is wearing a nightie, fake glasses, and a blanket. She is going as Sophie from the BFG.

Dsis is considering Mrs Wormwood for my niece. Her husband is a little concerned at the fishnets and split skirt Grin

DD was going to be Sophie but is now moaning none of her mighties are the right colour, so she wants to be Matilda and presumes I am going to buy her a blue dress! I'm not.

VanessaBet · 09/09/2016 19:21

I will spending this weekend attempting to make a pelican outfit. Pity me! Wine

So far this consists of a long sleeved white t-shirt, white football shorts, some vintage bright yellow Mary Quant tights and load of white feathers. I have a white feather masquerade kind of mask arriving tomorrow which I need to pimp up with a pelican beak! Any suggestions gratefully received! He can carry a shower squeegee and the big car washing sponge Grin

George (marvellous medicine) wears a red top and jeans carrying potion in a bottle. Job done!

OlennasWimple · 09/09/2016 19:32

Little Red Riding Hood (Revolting Rhymes)

Matilda's best friend is a girl called Lavender: if DD has brown hair (preferably with a fringe) and some purple clothes, that would be very straight forward

MrsBrent · 09/09/2016 19:34

You can buy medicine bottles from the chemist. Bit of string around the bottle. Red top, jeans.
George!

MissClarke86 · 09/09/2016 19:38

You can always paint 2 large pieces of cardboard purple, make shoulder straps from ribbon and wear it as a tunic to be violet Beauregard.

2gorgeousboys · 09/09/2016 19:41

DS1 went as his namesake last year for World Book Day. Jeans, red t shirt and a big casserole pan and wooden spoon. We also printed off pictures of lots of the ingredients which were included in the marvellous medicine and put them in the pan.

How to make a bird beak.

There's The Pig and The Cow and the min pins or a vicious knid

GinIsIn · 09/09/2016 20:20

Dress, elbow length gloves, stompy shoes, wig - one of The Witches.

Caken · 09/09/2016 20:44

Go as a golden ticket!

DD1 is going as Matilda, and DD2 is going as original Veruca Salt - red dress, and we're painting a polystyrene egg gold (prop for the goose egg) and making a gold ticket. Easy peasy 😊

MaisieDotes · 09/09/2016 20:48

Violet Beauregard- when she turns into a blueberry! Blue face paint etc.
