Girls/boys ratio

hi! My 6 year old has just went into primary 2 (Scotland) his new class for the year has 5 boys and about 17 girls! I'm not too happy about this as I want him to make lots of male friends. He's happy enough but he did mention there were a lot of girls in his class. I'm sure there are only 22 boys in the whole year and 40 girls. The other three p2 classes have more. 2 of which are composite. Why don't they spit the boys up evenly?

I worked in a small school where we only had one girl and 10 boys. Sometimes it just depends on how the school decide to split them.

If he's happy it's only an issue if you make it an issue. If there are 4 p2 classes including composites it sounds like the boys have been fairly split. They won't change classes now anyway. What would you like to happen?

I think cases are split on the levels DC are at rather than sex tbh.

He'll make lots of friends whichever class he's in. My DC have friends in other classes who they play with at lunchtime etc

Is there a pattern to how they've made up the composite classes - like date of birth or ability/level the children are working at?

I know nothing can be done, just having a wee moan about it. The 2 composite classes are about ability. As there is 1/2 and 2/3. Maybe the other two classes are about ability too. He struggles a wee bit with his reading. I'm just annoyed as I don't like 2 of the boys in his class, they are horrible. They steal, swear, bully. I know they are only 5/6 years but why couldn't he have been put with the nice boys. He's quiet but makes friends easily. I know he plays with other kids at the breaks.

Presumably the split by ability means that they wouldn't be split by ability if they put the boys in different classes.

If he's quiet and doesn't companion - or you're a mom that just accepts the situation then yes they will keep putting him with C and Y because Alfies mum would be in and Georges dad would ring up -

We are a single form entry and last year I had 21 girls and 5 boys this year I'll only have 3 girls!

Don't forget not all those girls will be super girly and not interact with the boys. They are just children and he'll make friends with which ever DC he gets on with best.

Why does he have to have male friends? My 6 year old boy much prefers to play with girls.
