tips to get decent priced school shoes

Hello

I have DS going into Y2 and DD about to start reception. Are there any shops that sell school shoes at a decent mid range price and are still good quality? Like around the £20 mark?

I've tried cheaper school shoes from Sports Direct and they weren't great quality, wore out within a few weeks. I went back to Clarks shoes but they're so expensive especially when you have more than one...

Try Clark's outlet stores - we went to the one in Somerset and got two pairs of fitted shoes for £40.

I measure myself & buy from T K Maxx - shoes range from £9.99 -£24.99 for Kickers - got DD's and DS's for under £27 for both this year.

Ouch playmobile- that would hurt. We bought DS Clarke shoes from the site mentioned above for under 25.

Lilydaisyrose do you use a special foot measuring thing or is there another way?

The sale/outlet section on the Start Rite website is good. Just bought shoes for both DCs there and there were a few school type shoes available. You can download a measuring guide and it is all quite easy as the site tells you what size you need.

Agree Shoes For Kids are very good. If you're not confident measuring the child's feet yourself you can take them to be measured and then use that as a guide for buying the same brand shoes on Shoes For kids. They have quite a detailed size guide on the website, including descriptions of which sizes come up large or narrow etc.

The other thing you can do is get them measured and fitted in a shoe shop, work out which style and size you want, and then search by that model name on ebay. There are lots of people selling new in box school shoes from Clarks and sTartrite, either overstock or bought in error.

Keep an eye out for the startrite online sale. I a few years ago I got the same design in 4 different sizes for dd2 at £15 each. She's worn them from year 2- year 5 and I've only had to buy new ones now she's going into year 6

I buy M&S shoes. They seem fine to me and are half the price of clarks.

girls - I went a few weeks ago so its probably much busier now. I would get there at opening just in case. We got both dc measured that split up to find shoes - dh with dc2 and me with dc1 - then we got the ticket to have them fitted together.

Buy the Clarks home measuring gauge (on their website) have it delivered, measure DCs feet at home and go to an outlet store alone!

If you don't have DC in tow needing fitted and know the size, the end of holiday scrum is much easier to manage.

And after seeing the way some of the clarks assistants measured my DCs feet in the past I am confident my ability to use the foot gauge at the very least matches theirs.

Thank you some more great tips! I'll look into that measuring guage. I'm going to try the print out from the start rite website first tho and see how easy that is to use.

I went for Sainsburys for my DD starting Reception. The reviews were good, and I figured if she scuffs them badly in the first term, I'd rather pay £18 than £34+ from Clarks.

Dd starting year one but in her school the reception dc all wear school tracksuits and trainers in reception so cant wait to see her look like a little girl.
Am not too keen on clarks but am toying between kickers ( my choice ) or lelli kellys ( her choice ) probably due to the interchangeable straps.
Any experience of these?
