School milk beyond reception year

How many of you pay for milk after age 6? I'm interested because I have just automatically renewed ds's milk subscription for yr 1 knowing that he drinks it every morning without fail and pretty much never bothers with the fruit on offer but I've just had a chat with a friend who says her daughter is the only one in her class who still has it, she's just finished yr 1.

I guess my question is: is it usual to continue it up the school and what age is it most common to stop? I am quite happy for him to have it for as long as he wants of course.

My dd barely drank it in reception so I didn't pay for summer term in reception & I won't bother next year.
As far as I could make out from dd it was just on offer to everyone rather than being specifically given to those who pay although that might change in yr1

I know that up to age 5 it's on offer anyway. DS was 5 in September and he does love milk so I was quite happy to pay for reception year as he would have drunk it anyway given the chance. It won be just the for year 1 though. I wonder if he will be in a minority this year?

My ds was drinking milk up to end of yr2, although he is allergic to normal milk so he had to bring in his own from home.
He said nearly whole class was having milk up to end of yr2.

DD still has milk and she's just finished year 4. I think about 10 kids in her class have it still.
DS2 in reception has it as well, we had to pay as he was 5 in September, DS1 in doesn't have it in year 2 but only because they have it during morning break and he'd rather play.
We have a choice between semi skimmed or soya milk

I paid for DS to have it in year 1, he was one of three or four children to still have it and hated being different! Stopped it after Xmas.

I've never been asked to pay for milk at school. DC are 8&5

Schools must provide free milk for children under 5 and since 2015 those pupils who are entitled to free school meals. There are many school milk schemes around the country that school and parents can sign up to pay for milk

Dd had milk in year 1 and said that most of her class were still on milk. She has decided not to have it in year 2.

Ds won't touch milk as much as I try to encourage it so have never paid. From what he says most still do though - he is going into year 2

I work in a school. The kids have it right up to Year 6 they plead to go and collect it The year groups I taught last year all had about half the class having milk. So between 12 -16 kids from Year 3 up. Not sure how many in Year 6. Had it but some did because I occasionally saw them going to fetch it.

Loads still have it in Y1 but it does peter out as they get older. We have 1 or 2 in Y6.

A handful of children in each class have it at my school after year 2.

DD had it a long way through primary school - possibly to Yr 6, can't remember. She was terrible at drinking water through the day but did drink her milk, so kept it going as much for that as anything else.

Definitely tailed off in the class as time passed though.

Mine only had it while it was free, they're quite happy to eat the free fruit now and they get enough dairy the rest of the time.

My DS had it in year 1. He was one of 4-5 out of 75 kids. I stopped it after one term as it was pointless, he just wanted to grab a piece of fruit, use the water fountain and go out to play like everyone else. He still drinks quite a lot of milk at home, so it doesn't really matter that he's not having it at school

My school offers free milk up to year two and the majority of children in year two, one and reception do drink it, with just a few in each class who don't.

School milk is a thing of the past in Scotland - nobody gets it. Milk is offered as a drink option with school lunches, but it's a long way from the lukewarm bottles in the classroom.

This is new to many that anyone pays for milk at school. Our school has free milk, as well as fruit (is that standard?). Dd is always hungry so I'm glad for the extra sustenance!

Um Loona, not everywhere in Scotland. Lots of children get free milk at least up to P2.

DD going into Y2 still has it, about half the class do.
We pay £6 for the year.
