Which primary science assessment do you use?

I am a science co-ordinator in a primary school and I need to find and buy end of unit assessment for ks1 and ks2. I just wondered what other teachers use at their schools? Please help.

This year we have used the assessment tests on twinkl for science, English and maths for y1-y6 . They have been really accurate with regards to SATS etc.

Feenie · 20/07/2016 18:47

Except there are no Science SATs at all.

We use teacher assessment against the national curriculum.

almostthirty · 20/07/2016 19:09

The science ones we have used throughout the year have matched the curriculum well and as the spag/reading/maths have both matched the curriculum and been very similar to sats, we will be using them all again next year.

Feenie · 20/07/2016 19:12

What SATs? There aren't any!

Feenie · 20/07/2016 19:15

Ok, sorry - having read properly I can see you mean matched the other SATs. Can't see the reading being as ludicrous as the actual reading SAT though - who saw that coming??

I think it's sad anyone is considering Science tests at all Sad

Floppywillow · 20/07/2016 19:18

Almost thirty- thank you. I used the twinkle spag and reading examples so will look at the Science.
Feenie- we are using the national curriculum but people are asking for something which will provide expected and greater depth.

I agree Feenie as the best assessment was when we had a whole school science week. Through discussion and questioning their understanding was amazing.

Feenie - interested to know - in what way was the reading sat ludicrous?

Feenie · 20/07/2016 19:26

Extremely difficult - beyond anything encountered before. Nothing like the sample paper.

mrz · 20/07/2016 19:30

Ive got to be honest I thought the Twinkl reading tests were equally ludicrous

mrz · 20/07/2016 19:32

We're using some the coordinator got from a course run by the Science Learning Partnership

bookwormbeagle · 20/07/2016 19:33

Hmmmm now I'm even more confused - we got my DD's school report with sats results included (I'd asked the teacher for this to be relayed to me) and she got 40/40. Which we're obviously chuffed to bits with but I've got another thread running about her reading levels dropping, so thought perhaps the test itself was easier than I'd anticipated.

bookwormbeagle · 20/07/2016 19:35

Apologies for the derail of the thread there, thank god it's nearly end of term!

mrz · 20/07/2016 19:35

40/40 sounds like the Phonic Screening Check not the SATs

bookwormbeagle · 20/07/2016 19:39

She did that in year 1 though and passed it fine - the not from teacher said reading 40/40 and numeracy 57/60.

mrz · 20/07/2016 19:50

SAT scores were between 85-115

mrz · 20/07/2016 19:54

Sorry it seems like they've given you raw scores not scale scores

bookwormbeagle · 20/07/2016 20:10

Yes, that was the raw score.

Feenie · 20/07/2016 20:10

So Twinkl is as difficult? I shall take a look.

Why would you need a Science test to assess greater depth though? None of the SATs assess greater depth.

mrz · 20/07/2016 20:20

I'd be interested in your view I'd be interested in your view of the tests not more difficult butt find them unfriendly

Feenie · 20/07/2016 20:25

Will let you know with pleasure Smile
