eczema friendly grey pinafore dresses for uniform

4yoDD is due to start school in September and the uniform is a dark grey pinafore dress from Marks and Spencer. The dress is 65% polyester so they have given me dispensation to get a cotton option for her. I bought the cotton rich Marks and Spencer grey pinafore but it has a bow on it which the school wasn't happy with (and I get it, all the girls will want the one with the bow otherwise....). i tried taking it out and ended up creating a small hole (and I do know how to sew so I wasnt attacking it with big scissors lol).

What do others do in this situation? Hoping the wise mumsnetters will have some advice or ideas that I haven't thought of!

Oh bother, I was going to say the M&S one. One specific pinafore? Sigh. Let me guess, private school or academy?

You say cotton rich, M&S do do a different cotton rich one without bow, but it's 85/15, is that too much? We just went for the 100% cotton one but they're allowed anything grey at all at DD school.

Whatever you choose I'd email a link to the school before you buy in case they decide it's too different in some other way.

I get 100% cotton uniform bits from www.ecooutfitters.co.uk. They usually have pinafore dresses but they emailed to say they were refreshing their stock, so may not be available now.

If she's wearing a pinafore then surely she's wearing a shirt of similar under it. And tights? So it's not touching the skin?
She has my sympathy. Eczema is awful.

My ds has severe eczema. His worst enemy is not uniform. It's carpet time.
We ask school to let him sit on the chair instead.

Would they allow this one with buttons?

Is it worth looking at ebay? In the past M&S have had other cotton grey pinafore designs without a bow, albeit with small glittery butterfly on a pocket that is cotton jersey so comfortable, stretchy when the child moves and sits down cross legged, but is also skin friendly.

NB it might be worth getting cotton or 'skin kind' types of summer dresses as well now if you haven't already, even if for after Easter next year as M&S have the largest range in stock at this time of year and don't always have all colours or styles or size in stock at other times of the year.

Having had eczema and dc with eczema I don't think the pinafore will be much of an issue, assuming they're wearing something underneath it. If she wears tights and a t-shirt/shirt under it then the pinafore won't touch skin at all.

Next used to do a 100% cotton Jersey fabric material pinafore which worked for us. School wasn't happy but relented after DD scratched her arms so they bled. This was a few years ago....Next also did 100% cotton grey Jersey trousers which had a buckle but easy to snip off.

Just to say even if everything else is cotton, a non cotton pinafore can still cause scratching..,as we found out.
