Why the need to wind down so early...

For two weeks now our YR3's have not been doing normal lessons and we still have another two weeks of this to go.

My children are coming home fed up as they seem to be doing lots of craft stuff, word searches and playing with Lego, whilst the teaching staff are clearing classrooms of this YR groups stuff and getting ready for next year.

Whilst I appreciate that they need to wind down and prepare, surely 4 weeks of it is way too much? They are about to get 6 weeks off!

Would be interested to know what other schools are doing.

Oh do please let us know what the head says.

coragreta What I'm hoping to gain is some insight as to why he believes that 4 weeks of wind down is beneficial to the children. Lets hope he can convince me that it is, because at the moment the £600 extra it's cost us for our summer holiday knowing they are doing word searches, playing with Lego and watching films is winding me up! We are not well off and have had to make sacrifices for this holiday.

sleeper going from your previous replies I'm detecting a hint of sarcasm in your last post. Being a teacher doesn't make your opinion on the matter any more valid than mine. Our school have an "open door" policy, so the head is more than happy to talk to parents relating to any concerns they might have. On the whole this is an outstanding school which we love and so do our dc, that said I still believe they are getting this wrong.

Erm nope not happening in our school. This week we will begin to wind down but last week our children were still being tested and we were running a full curriculum. We are in Leicestershire and finish on Friday, we still have a few projects to finish off which we will hopefully do in the next couple of days then we will have some wind down time.
