Not a clue, could be anything.

If it is a standardised score then 100 would be average and the higher above, the better. but why there are three scores is impossible to know!

clam · 02/07/2016 11:39

Surely they should have sent out some accompanying explanation?

Brownfiesta · 02/07/2016 11:44

Were the scores for different aspects of maths - ?calculating, ?shape, ?data handling. As pp said a standard score of 100 is average.

Asking school is the best option.
Without knowing which test, etc., even wise MN teachers are unable to answer, I assume.

A standardised score of 100 is average, ie on the 50th centile (half the people taking the test did better, and half worse). A score of 110 would be roughly on the 75th centile (ie better than 75% of people taking the test), 120 on the 90th and 130 on the 98th.

Perhaps those are results from termly assessments?

Regardless, they seem to be standardised and like PP's have said suggest v good performance all round.

I don't want to involve the school on this matter. Sounds silly but any dealings with her current teacher is torturous.

Life I don't know what they are from, teacher likes to keep info close to his heart Confused

Aunite, thanks for that explanation, I know she is doing well but if 130 is 98 percentile that's brilliant, thank you! Smile

100 would be the mean for her age with a range of 85-115 being average score , with a variance of + or - 5 . So 120s are very good, 130 or above excellent. Iirc the max is 141.

RosesareSublime · 04/07/2016 13:51

Thanks! I suppose its too early to say but are these results going to stand her in good stead for the 11+, ie is she on track?

I think you need to explore why the maths results varied so much , 110 might not be enough but 127 probably would. How old is your dc?

clam · 04/07/2016 14:46

If the teacher is unapproachable, then bypass him and go straight to the Head. It's the Head's responsibility to ensure that any data sent out is properly backed up with some sort of explanation as to its meaning. You would not be at all unreasonable to request that.

RosesareSublime · 04/07/2016 16:40

Interesting thanks Lizs. Will ask next term!
